1. Program Objectives

1.1     General Program Objectives

The Bachelor of Biology program has been built with program objectives and program expected learning outcomes in alignment with the vision and mission of the College of Natural Sciences, Can Tho University. The Biology bachelors will gain basic and specialized knowledges of biology. They will achieve many practical skills of biological techniques and have the ability to approach new aspects based on biological techniques. Bachelors of Biology will be trained appropriate personal skills and attitudes, basic knowledges in political science, society, law, physical education, national security. Therefrom, they will have self-control ability, high responsibility, good political and ethical qualities, leadership capacity, and adaptability to changes in work environment scientific research ability and good health to meet the requirements of self-improvement of learners. With these personal attitudes and abilities, then, can contribute tothe country's socio-economic development and international integration requirements.

1.2     Specific Objectives  

  1. Equip students with political theory, national security knowledge, foreign language ability and basic informatics technology skills according to current regulations; formation and development of personality, morality and health.
  2. Apply mathematics, natural sciences, basic social sciences, fundamental biology and biology-applied techniques to understand problems related to different biological fields such as genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, plant physiology, animal physiology, ecology, and biological resources.
  3. Help students achieve ability to communicate, present and write reports; skill in teamworking, planning, time management, and problem-solving.
  4. Train students building theirself-responsibility, honesty, and correct awareness of working ethics in scientific research.

2. Learning Outcomes

To complete this study program, students should accumulate all obligate knowledges, skills and demonstrate their self-responsibility and good attitudes during this program-attending process. To do these, students should:

2.1     Knowledge

2.1.1 General knowledge

  1. Gain basic knowledge of political sciences, social sciences, and law; basic knowledge of physical education and national security education; understand policies and guidelines for socio-economic development of the national Party;
  2. Gain knowledge of basic mathematics, natural sciences, computers.
  3. Understand and apply basic knowledge of English or French equivalent to level of 3/6 of Vietnam's Foreign Language Competency Framework (or level B1 according to the European Framework of Reference).

2.1.2 Fundamental knowledge

  1. Know the principle of biology and biological techniques to understand problems related to the field of biology.
  2. Obtain knowledge of biochemistry, ecology, microbiology, zoology, and b Know how to arrange, identify, classify and make specimens of animals and plants. Understand about the conservation, management, and development of natural resources orientated in a modern and sustainable standards.
  3. Know many skills in scientific research methodology such as planning and organizing scientific research, experimental design; processing the experimental data.

2.1.3     Specialized knowledge

  1. Gain specialized knowledge in biological fields such as plant physiology, animal physiology, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, algal biology, and microbiology.
  2. Achieve knowledge of plant tissue culture, animal tissue biology, immunobiology, biological assay, environmental toxicology, microbiological techniques. Subsequently, students can apply these specialized knowledge in the fields of biological production, quality control, and management of the environment and natural resources.
  3. Be able to explain most of biological mechanisms and to apply these mechanisms in biological practice like in biotechnology, agriculture, fisheries, environment, biomedicine.

2.2     Skills

2.2.1 Academic skills

  1. Identify the common plants and animal species in the Mekong Delta; know how to use taxonomy keys to identify species names; how to investigate, collect samples in the field, how to make animal and plant specimens.
  2. Know how to design experiments, collect and filter information, process and analyze data. Students can form and strengthen discussion skills, flexibility and self-management in different working environments.
  3. Form skills in assessing the working quality of students and all members in the professional working group. Students should also access to practical employment in the fields of biology and applied biology after

2.2.2 Soft skills

  1. Know how to solve your own problems or give your solutions to other students or your colleagues in the workplace. Students can be able to offer your knowledge and skills in professional tasks or activities.
  2. Express your skills in management, cooperation, problem-solving, negotiation in study and work.
  3. Be able to communicate in a multicultural learning and working environment; express leadership skills; start-up a business; create jobs for themselves and others.
  4. Express your skills in informatics, documentation, using appropriate professional software; apply the Internet, and foreign languages ​​for social, academic, and professional purposes.

2.3     Attitudes and self-responsibility

  1. Form a awareness of discipline and industrial working style, political moral qualities, and civic responsibility; respect and follow the appropriate instruction and regulation of manager in the workplace; consider, respect and adapt to different points of view of members in working group.
  2. Show their self-confidence, enthusiasm, passion, adaptability to change in any situation; have a progressive and difficulty-overcoming attitude; have a scientific and professional working methods; comply with professional ethics in their pursued work.
  3. Work independently or in groups in different working conditions; express self-orientation ability; be able to show a suitable decision; protect true personal point of view; take personal responsibility in a group to guide and supervise others to complete the given tasks.
