On August 21, 2025, the College of Natural Sciences had the honor of welcoming Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thai An Nghia (Department of Mathematics, Oakland University, USA) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Khanh (Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) during their visit and collaboration with the Department of Mathematics. The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Tai (Vice Dean), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Men (Vice Dean), together with lecturers, graduate students, and undergraduate students of the department.
In addition to discussing opportunities for research collaboration, the meeting included three academic talks in the areas of Variational Analysis and Optimization: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thai An Nghia presented “Stable recovery in regularized linear inverse Problems”; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Khanh talked about “Coderivative-based Newton methods and applications”; and Dr. Nguyen Duy Cuong (Department of Mathematics) contributed with a talk on “Primal and dual characterizations of sign-symmetric norms”.
At the end of the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thai An Nghia gave an introduction about the Department of Mathematics at Oakland University and introduced full scholarships for Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. The meeting not only opened up new prospects for research collaboration but also provided students with valuable insights into study and research opportunities at Oakland University in particular and in the United States in general.
